Plans are now finalized for Emporia’s Fourth of July fireworks show Thursday night.
ESU says Welch Stadium will open at 8 pm for anybody wanting to watch the show from the stadium. People can sit in the available bleachers or chair-back seats. They can also watch the show from the field, but chairs of any kind are prohibited on the turf and the Zola Witten Track surrounding the football field.
Tailgating will also be allowed at several parking lots beginning at 7 pm, including the area north of the Kossover Tennis Complex and the lot just west of the Student Recreation Center.
Other items of note: Parking lots across Highland Street from the art annex are available for handicapped parking and viewing. Also, 15th remains closed between Silent Joe and the southwest corner of Welch Stadium for the Morse Hall complex renovation and demolition project.
Regardless of the viewing point, alcohol and personal fireworks will not be allowed. Special containers will be available so tailgaters can get rid of hot coals.
The fireworks display should begin between 9:45 and 10 pm. It could last 20-30 minutes.
