An Emporia woman has been reappointed to the Kansas Supreme Court Task Force on Permanency Planning.
Mickey Edwards, the executive director of the Kansas CASA Association, was reappointed to a four-year term ending June 30, 2023. Edwards has been associated with CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, since 1996 and led CASA of the Flint Hills from 1998 to her appointment as state director in October 2015.
The Task Force on Permanency Planning was established in 1984 to recommend improvements or suggest programs to help foster children find safe, permanent homes. It advises the state high court on ways to improve the care of children under court jurisdiction. It also has several responsibilities, including:
*developing a strategic plan for child welfare oversight
*working with district courts, the Kansas Department for Children and Families and Native American tribes
*developing a statewide legal training regimen
*reviewing federally-funded child and family services
