A train derailment resulted in damages to an Emporia street Friday.
The derailment of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive occurred at East Ninth Avenue between Topeka Street and East Avenue near Bunge Friday morning. The cause of the derailment is currently unavailable, however, Emporia Police Sergeant Lisa Sage says EPD was alerted of the derailment at approximately 3:55 am. The locomotive was stuck in the roadway and “tore up the road.” Streets were barricaded off through the morning so crews could remove the train from the street.
