More details are coming to light surrounding a possible vandalism case at the All Veterans Memorial.
KVOE News recently reported a window on one of the Huey helicopters at the memorial had been broken out. It now appears as though the damage may have been more extensive than originally reported.
According to local veteran Ed Rathke, upon further inspection, there was also further rock damage to the pilot’s fuselage window. In addition, there was also “a mutilated fish” left at the Grant F. Timmerman memorial space. Rathke tells KVOE News the damage to the fuselage window could cost over $2,300 to repair.
This comes after local veteran Frank Lowery tells KVOE News a replacement for the first damaged window could be well over $800. The damage was originally discovered as local veterans were placing flags at the memorial for the Fourth of July Thursday. A report has been taken by the Emporia Police Department. No suspect information is available at this time.
If you have information contact the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200. Lowery and fellow local veteran Ron Whitney will join KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment Monday morning to discuss the situation further.
