The Kansas City Royals out scored the Washington Nationals 7-4 in 11 innings Friday night.
The Royals had built a 4-1 lead scoring 2 runs in in the 3rd inning Adalberto Mondesi and Alex Gordon drove in the runs.
The Royals added 2 more runs in the 5th. Hunter Dozier and Jorge Soler drove in the runs.
The Nationals scored a run in the 7th and tied the game in the 9th.
In the 11th Mondesi singled to drive in Nicky Lopez to take the lead. Martin Maldonado and Terrance Gore would both score on a throwing error.
Adalberto Mondesi finished the night going 3 for 6 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. He also helped turn 2 double plays.
Royals pitching walked a tight rope all night. They threw a combined 191 pitches, walked 11 batters but the Nationals stranded 19 base runners.
The Royals and Nationals play again Saturday afternoon. Glenn Sparkman will be on the mound for the Royals. Max Scherzer will start for the Nationals. First pitch set for 3:05. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 2:30p.
