The fifth round of flooding in the KVOE listening area is currently underway.
Flooding has begun at one area gauge and is expected to become more widespread through the remainder of the weekend into the beginning of the work week. Several area gauges remain in flood warnings.
The Cottonwood River at Cottonwood Falls is now experiencing minor flooding. The river is at 10.6 feet and forecasts are now showing the river may crest at 11.5 feet, above the 9-foot flood stage, by Sunday afternoon. The river should then go back below flood stage Monday morning.
There is also a flood warning for the Cottonwood River at Emporia from early Monday morning through Tuesday night. The river is at 18.71 feet, below flood stage of 20 feet. The current forecast has the river climbing to 24.2 feet Monday morning and going below flood stage Tuesday morning.
The Neosho River is now in a flood warning at Neosho Rapids until Wednesday afternoon. The river is at 20.47 feet below the flood stage of 22 feet. Current forecasts show the river cresting at 24.5 feet by Tuesday morning.
The Cottonwood River near Plymouth is in a flood warning from Friday evening until Tuesday morning. The river is currently at 28.43 feet below the flood stage of 32 feet. The river should crest at 32.7 feet by Sunday evening and go below flood stage by Monday evening.
Separately a flood warning has been issued for Chase County from Sunday morning until Tuesday morning.

7 am Saturday: UPDATE: Flash flood watch canceled; flood warnings remain in effect into early next week
Flood warnings remain in effect for several gauges and one county in the KVOE listening area through the weekend into early next week.
A flood warning has been issued for Chase County from Sunday morning through Tuesday morning. A flash flood watch for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties which was meant to go until noon Saturday has been canceled.
There is also a flood warning for the Cottonwood River at Emporia from early Monday morning through Tuesday night. The river is at 18.07 feet, below flood stage of 20 feet. The current forecast has the river climbing to 22.5 feet Monday and going below flood stage Tuesday morning.
The Cottonwood River, meanwhile, is in a flood warning at Cottonwood Falls from Saturday night through Monday afternoon. The river gauge is at 7.3 feet and forecasts are now showing the river may crest at 12.5 feet, above the 9-foot flood stage, by Sunday afternoon. The river should then go back below flood stage Monday morning.
The Neosho River is now in a flood warning at Neosho Rapids from Friday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. The river is at 20.17 and could rise to 24.5 feet by Tuesday morning.
The Cottonwood River near Plymouth is in a flood warning from Friday evening until Tuesday morning. The river is currently at 26.45 feet below the flood stage of 32 feet. The river should crest at 33.1 feet by Sunday evening and go below flood stage by Monday evening.
There is some good news short-term because several Lyon County roads have reopened. The Highway Department has pulled barricades from:

*Road G between 160 & 170
*Road G between 170 & 175
*Road G between 250 & 260
*Road H between 160 to 165
*Road J between the north Emporia city limits & 215
*Road J between 140 & 160
*Road J from 150 to 160
*Road K between 140 & 155
*Road 150 between J & K5
*Road 150 between N & P
*Road 160 between G & J
*Road 215 between H5 & J5
*Road 240 between D & E
Several roads and intersections are still closed:
*Road 150 from J to K-5; from N to P
*Road 155 from K to K-5
*Road 215 from Road H5 to J5
*Road G from 40 to 50; from 170 to 180
*Road J from 140 to 150; from 190 to 210
*Road K from 140 to 155
Elsewhere, Greenwood County Emergency Management has announced the county landfill is closed after heavy rainfall washed away several nearby culverts earlier this week. The affected road should be repaired by Monday, but the landfill is closed until further notice.
Thunderstorm chances continue through late next week, although the chances are highest now through the weekend.
