Flooding continues along the Cottonwood River from Emporia west to Plymouth.
The Cottonwood at Emporia has climbed to 22.07 feet, above flood stage of 20. The latest crest projection is 22.7 feet late Sunday night. The river should go below flood stage Tuesday morning. A flood warning continues until Tuesday night.
At Plymouth, the river went above the 32-foot flood stage shortly before 11 am and is at 32.1 feet. The river crested at 32.24 feet Sunday and should go below flood stage before midnight. A warning is ongoing until Monday afternoon.
The Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls is now below the 9-foot flood stage at 8.2 feet and falling. It crested Saturday at 11.1 feet.
Flooding has not started further downstream but is expected for the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids. The river is at 21.29 feet, below flood stage of 22. It should go above flood stage early Monday, crest at 23.4 feet Tuesday and go below flood stage Tuesday evening. A flood warning continues until Wednesday.

River-based flooding continues to expand after heavy rainfall last week.
The Cottonwood River is currently the focus, with gauges at Emporia, Plymouth and Cottonwood Falls now in flood:
The Cottonwood at Emporia has climbed to 21.24 feet, above flood stage of 20. The latest crest projection is 23.6 feet late Sunday night, down slightly from 23.9 earlier in the day. The river should go below flood stage Tuesday morning. A flood warning continues until Tuesday night.
At Plymouth, the river went above the 32-foot flood stage shortly before 11 am and is at 32.18 feet. The river has reached as high as 32.24 feet Sunday. It could get as high as 32.3 feet but should go below flood stage before midnight. A warning is ongoing until Monday afternoon.
The Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls is above flood stage, but it crested at 11.1 feet Saturday. It’s currently at 10 feet and should go below the 9-foot flood stage by Sunday evening. The warning continues until Monday afternoon.

9:30 am Sunday: Flooding resumes along Cottonwood River at Emporia; handful of area roads remain closed
The fifth round of flooding in the KVOE listening area since late April is currently underway and is widening in scope.
Flooding is underway at two area gauges, with flooding set to resume soon at a third and likely coming for a fourth by sunrise Monday.
The Cottonwood River at Emporia went into flood shortly before 9 am. The river is at 20.22 feet, above flood stage of 20 feet. The current forecast has the river climbing to 23.9 feet Monday morning, just below the mark where it starts crossing the Kansas Highway 99 southbound lane, and going below flood stage Tuesday morning.
The Cottonwood River at Cottonwood Falls is now experiencing minor flooding. The river is at 10.6 feet after cresting Saturday at 11.1 feet, above the 9-foot flood stage. The river should then go back below flood stage early Monday morning.
The Cottonwood River near Plymouth is in a flood warning until Monday afternoon. The river is currently at 31.8 feet, below the flood stage of 32 feet. The river should crest at 32.6 feet by Sunday evening and go below flood stage by Monday morning.
The Neosho River is now in a flood warning at Neosho Rapids until Wednesday afternoon. The river is at 20.78 feet, below the flood stage of 22 feet. It should go above flood stage by late Sunday night, crest at 24.5 feet by early Tuesday morning and go below flood stage by early Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Chase County is reporting several low-lying county roads near the Cottonwood are flooded, although US Highway 50 and Kansas Highway 177 remain open. Greenwood County still has the county landfill closed after last week’s heavy rain washed away several nearby culverts and damaged the road leading to the facility. That road should be repaired by Monday, but the landfill is closed until further notice.
