The heat will be ramping up area-wide in the coming days and because of this, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for parts of the KVOE listening area.
Affected counties include Lyon, Coffey, Osage, Morris and Wabaunsee. The watch will go into effect Wednesday until Saturday evening.
Highs in the upper 90’s will linger through most of the week with Wednesday seeing a high of 98 degrees and Thursday and Friday both posting a high of 97. Heat-related illnesses are highly possible during this time.
The National Weather Service warns residents to avoid prolonged time outdoors especially for those who are more susceptible to heat such as young children and the elderly. Be sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and staying hydrated. If you can, avoid prolonged exposure to the heat, stay inside an air-conditioned room and be sure to check in on relatives and neighbors.
