The Pro Disc Golf Association’s Junior Worlds Tournament closed down Saturday, and once again the tourney was successfully hosted by Dynamic Discs.
This was the second of a three-year partnership between the city, Dynamic Discs and PDGA to host the tournament in Emporia. It’s an unprecedented working arrangement, according to Dynamic Discs owner Jeremy Rusco.
A decision on a tournament location beyond 2020 has not been announced, but Rusco would like to see the current arrangement extended.
Aside from a weather delay for the first day of the tournament, the Junior Worlds went off without a hitch. Better than 200 disc golfers from over 40 states and five countries came to Emporia, and Dynamic Discs business owner Jeremy Rusco says it was good to bring players and family members to town.
Area residents fared well in the tournament:
*Trinton Ybarra of Emporia was 66th in the 18-and-under boys division.
*Isaiah Esquivel of Emporia was sixth in the 15-and-under division. Donovan Esquivel of Emporia was tied for seventh. Seth Davis was 30th. Spencer Pike was tied for 43rd. Abram Brazzel was 51st. Andon Temeyer of Olpe finished 52nd.
*Jenna Smith of Olpe was ninth in the girls 15-and-under division
*Bennett Doemland of Emporia was 30th in the 12-and-under boys division
