A Texas woman was killed and a passenger was hurt in a crash before sunrise in southern Osage County on Monday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 52-year-old Patricia Falconer of Canyon Lake was killed when the crash developed on Interstate 35 northbound at mile marker 158, between the BETO Junction and Melvern exits, around 5:30 am. Falconer’s SUV left the Interstate for currently unknown reasons and entered the center median. The SUV crossed both northbound lanes, entered a ditch and rolled several times.
Falconer was killed, while 27-year-old Jeffrey Cadman, also of Canyon Lake, was taken to Overland Park Regional with suspected serious injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts when the crash happened.
Separately, a Department of Transportation worker was hospitalized after a wreck near the fatal crash location.
Troopers say 48-year-old Christopher Staley of Williamsburg was hurt when a semi hit his KDOT truck, which was legally parked with a sign board trailer at mile marker 157 northbound. Staley was taken to Coffey County Hospital in Burlington with suspected minor injuries, The semi driver, 55-year-old Morris Guesby, did not go to a hospital afterward.
It is unclear whether the crash happened in a KDOT work zone or whether Staley was directing traffic past the fatal crash location a mile up the road.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Osage County deputies are working a reported injury crash on Interstate 35 at this time.
The Highway Patrol says the wreck is near mile marker 158 northbound, or 31 miles northeast of Emporia.
Neither the Highway Patrol or Osage County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed the number of vehicles or patients involved. Authorities also have not said whether northbound traffic is blocked as a result of the crash.

Coffey County Dispatch says the wreck affects northbound I-35 traffic near BETO Junction but Osage County deputies are leading the investigation. Osage County Dispatch says it cannot release any information about the crash at this time.
