Emporia State musicians traveled and performed at the International Trumpet Guild this past week.
Eleven ESU students — nine trumpeters and two trombonists — along with Band Director Gary Ziek traveled to Miami, Florida to perform and experience the 2019 ITG Convention.
At the ITG, college groups perform prelude concerts, which serve as openers for professional groups. The ESU prelude was received extremely well as they opened for the “7-4 Emsemble,” a professional group from Venezuela. On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Ziek said ESU’s performance was well-received due to their performance of customized and original pieces.
Overall, Ziek describes the trip as a great and positive experience for the students as well as it was for himself. Zeik told students to “be a sponge” while on the trip.
