The federal government has outlined certain action steps for Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation after an investigation unveiled a falsified cleaning and inspection record from 2016.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the so-called Confirmatory Order documents mutually-agreed-upon actions after a maintenance worker and supervisor made a false report about the Wolf Creek control rod drive mechanisms and how they were cleaned and inspected in late October 2016. As part of the agreement, Wolf Creek will issue a communication reminding employees of “the importance of procedural adherence.” It will also meet with employees and long-term contract personnel, develop corrective actions and provide training for different employees. Wolf Creek also has to file an annual report on its corrective plan through 2023.
Wolf Creek and the NRC went through an alternative dispute resolution process before reaching an agreement on future actions.
Before the agreement was reached, Wolf Creek reiterated its expectations to employees for accurately performing and documenting work activities. It also launched remediation efforts with the individuals involved, created new policies and conducted an internal investigation.
