An Emporia Police investigation into a hit and run accident in southwest Emporia Thursday night is underway.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Sixth and Elm next to McDonald’s just before 8:30 pm Thursday evening for a reported injury accident. According to police officers on scene, a male was traveling eastbound on the sidewalk when he was struck by a vehicle turning westbound onto Sixth Avenue.
The vehicle in question then left the scene before police could arrive. Details on the make and model of the vehicle are currently unavailable, however, police tell KVOE News they are searching for a “red car.”
The individual who was struck suffered minor injuries and refused transport to Newman Regional Health. The investigation is currently ongoing.
During this time, emergency crews also responded to a report of an injury accident at Sixth and Garfield. The Emporia Fire Department tells KVOE News no one was transported from the scene. There is currently no word on if the two incidents are connected. Details are pending.
