The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team will open zone tournament play Saturday. The Post 5 seniors are the number 1 seed in the Zone 2 tournament to be played in Frontenac.
They are 27-1. They have had time to prepare for the zone tournament the last time they played was 10 days ago. Coach Anthony Markowitz says they will be ready to play.
For Hayden Baumwart its the best time of the season.
Hunter Groh says they will need to keep playing the way they have all season.
The Post 5 seniors receive a first round bye. They will play the winner of the game between Newton and Chanute Saturday at 3pm.
The other first round game has Linn County playing Garnett. The winner will play Pittsburg. The zone champion advances to the AAA/AA State tournament to be played at Hays.
