Demolition is underway at the site of the former Long John Silver’s restaurant.
Crews are taking down the former building at 1928 West Sixth to make way for a Wendy’s. Long John Silver’s suddenly closed in October. Lyon County records show the restaurant building was constructed in 1975. The property was sold in July from Rock Fogle Trust to GCH Emporia LLC, according to the Lyon County Register of Deeds Office.
Wendy’s hasn’t had a presence locally since the restaurant at Prairie Port Plaza closed in 2015 due to leasing issues, according to Wendy’s district management at the time. Wendy’s used to have a second restaurant at Sixth and West, but that was closed several years before the Prairie Port location closed its doors.
An estimated construction timetable and restaurant opening date have not been announced.
