Greenwood County deputies are using a weekend boating accident at Fall River State Park to highlight the need for safety while on the water.
The department says a boat struck a bridge structure at a high rate of speed Saturday evening. Four people were on board and two were hurt. A woman suffered confirmed hip and ankle injuries along with possible head injuries, while a man had a head laceration. The two others on board were ejected but were not hurt.
The crash site was inaccessible by land, so deputies, Eureka EMS, Eureka Fire and game wardens with Wildlife, Parks and Tourism used a drone to find the wreck and then used watercraft operated by wardens to reach the victims.
One person was airlifted to a Wichita hospital. The Sheriff’s Office is not saying which person was taken to Wichita for treatment. It is also not naming the people involved at the request of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
