USD 253 Emporia Public Schools continued their scheduled educational town hall meetings on the proposed $78 million bond election for facility improvements Tuesday morning.
The Trusler Business Center played host to the third of four scheduled town hall meetings. Conversations ranged from how the September mail-in election will work to financing and what the impact to local voters will look like should the bond be approved.
School Board Candidate Leslie Seeley was one of many district patrons in attendance for the town hall. Having attended the previous two meetings, Seeley says she has been impressed with how the district is taking feedback from one meeting and including it in the next.
Despite not being hosted at a district facility as the previous two town halls, Superintendent Kevin Case says Tuesday’s meeting saw the best turnout so far. The previous meetings were held at Walnut Elementary and Emporia Middle School and allowed patrons to tour and view the current state of classrooms as well as see pilot classrooms which the district is hoping will become the norm if the bond were to be approved.
While attendees at Tuesday’s meeting did not have this opportunity, Case says they would be happy to schedule a tour for anyone interested in doing so.
Those wishing to take a tour should contact the district at 620-341-2200.
The last bond election held by the district was in 2000 and will be fully paid off by October of 2020.
The final town hall meeting will take place Wednesday, July 31 at 6 pm inside the Emporia High School library. More information is available at USD253.org.
