With Emporia’s annual street rehabilitation process coming to an end, work continues on other construction projects in different parts of town.
During KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Tuesday, City Engineer Jim Ubert said the new water tower in southeast Emporia has seen a lot of work recently.
The water tower is helping both residents and businesses in southeast Emporia with water pressure and serves as an additional storage facility in case of a massive water main break like the one that nearly drained the main storage tanks near 24th and Industrial two years ago. It’s funded by city dollars and a federal grant.
The bowl should be lifted in place by late August.
In addition, the sanitary sewer project continues in downtown Emporia. Ubert says work has taken place in various parts of downtown.
Work could extend through most of spring 2020. Work is needed because many of Emporia’s downtown sanitary sewer lines are close to or over 100 years old and many have collapsed over time.
On street rehab, Ubert mentioned Sunnyslope from Sixth to Ninth and Mechanic from Sixth to 12th as the only two remaining projects.
Ubert also told KVOE listeners there has been some discussion about the next street rehab project, although that list won’t be finalized for months and the city typically reviews potential projects for decisions every two years.
