Water usage in the city of Emporia was slightly above budgeted receipts for the month of June.
According to Assistant City Manager Lane Massey, year to date the city was around four percent above budget estimates. Massey says this equivalates to the city being approximately $91,000 above where they anticipated being at this time of year.
He says this is slightly surprising due to the heavy rainfall which has plagued the majority of 2019. According to Massey, this is the time of year where they tend to see a spike in water usage, however, recent rainfall may have had an impact on said usage.
Massey attributes recent expansion efforts as a possible contributor to the numbers exceeding expectations.
While Massey says it is safe to assume the expansion and new apartments had a positive impact it will take a few years to truly measure if this a continuous trend or a one-time occurrence.
