Emporia State University’s newest residence building, Schallenkamp Hall, opened its doors to the public Saturday for self-guided tours and to give incoming freshmen and idea of where they’ll be living on campus shortly.
This massive four-story building was built for nearly 330 students to inhabit. ESU’s next generation of freshmen will be the first students to reside in Schallenkamp’s hallways. There are several features about the building for students to enjoy and first-year elementary education major Aliyah Shelter lists what caught her eye during the open house.
Shelter also says being a part of that first generation of students to live in Schallenkamp is something she’s excited about.
Some quick facts about the new Schallenkamp Hall:
- The building is over 90,000 square feet
- The Learning Commons in nearly 3,800 square feet
- 171 guest rooms and 327 beds
- Year-round climate control
- Walk-in closets are in every room
- Laundry rooms on every floor
- Two community kitchens can be found
- There’s a laundry room on every floor
- All LED lighting
- The first residence hall at ESU with backup power
- Introduction of a gutterless rain handler dispersal system
The fall semester at ESU will begin with classes starting August 19th.
