An Emporia man convicted of aggravated kidnapping and related counts will be resentenced Tuesday. Whether the hearing leads to any significant change in William Anderson’s prison time remains to be seen.
Anderson was convicted in April. He was sentenced July 18 to over 34 years in prison for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, robbery and burglary after a man was locked in a dog cage, threatened with knives, tattooed and had money taken from his bank account during a 24-to-30-hour incident in September 2018. County Attorney Marc Goodman says there was an unspecified error in the pre-sentence investigation, which means Anderson has to be resentenced.
The hearing is at 9:30 am in Lyon County District Court.
Anderson was one of four people originally charged in connection with the case, and three of the four have now been sentenced. Stacy Steen was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading no contest to aggravated kidnapping. Brandon Villa was sentenced to probation for attempted marijuana distribution after being originally charged with kidnapping. Sentencing is at 10 am Wednesday for Ivan Murillo after charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
