Work will take place through much of Monday to repair a broken water main in west-central Emporia.
Underground Utilities staffers say a 6-inch line failed in the 500 block of Wilson, with water bubbling up to the surface by mid-morning Sunday and continuing until crews got on site Monday morning to assess the damage and start repairs.
Crews have shut down traffic in that block. Crews have had to work through the emergency locate process for nearby utilities before actually finding the break and fixing it. Crews believe affected residents and nearby businesses can have their water service restored before 5 pm.
