A man arrested in Coffey County on suspicion of auto burglaries and thefts managed to escape custody in Leavenworth County on Tuesday, only to be found by authorities later in the day.
The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office says 26-year-old Bradley Fischer of Leavenworth was arrested as part of an investigation into recent burglaries and thefts. Fischer “accompanied deputies” to Leavenworth County but escaped.
A manhunt then developed involving several agencies, including police officers from Lawrence, Shawnee and Tonganoxie, deputies from Leavenworth County and troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol. Fischer was arrested shortly before 6 pm and jailed in Leavenworth County.
