Periodic heavy rainfall is a distinct possibility for most, if not all, of the KVOE listening area through lunchtime Friday.
The National Weather Service has expanded a flash flood watch affecting most of KVOE territory to include Morris County. This means Lyon County and all surrounding counties except Chase are included until 7 am Saturday.
The Weather Service says monsoon moisture from the desert Southwest is interacting with a series of disturbances moving along a frontal boundary to increase the risk of heavy rain and flash floods in the Central Plains. Up to 3 inches of rain could be commonplace across eastern Kansas through noon Friday and some locations could have higher totals.
Storms impacted parts of the KVOE listening area east of Emporia between midnight and sunrise Thursday, bringing over an inch of rain to Overbrook and over 700 power outages to Lyon-Coffey Rural Electric customers in Coffey County. Over 200 customers are still offline along US Highway 75 between Burlington and Coffey County Airport.
Further to the east, storms dumped 7-11 inches of rain in and around Ottawa early Thursday.
