Two people have turned themselves in as local authorities investigate a pair of suspected impersonating officer incidents in Lyon County this week.
Detective Sgt. Jacob Welsh says 18-year-old Joseph Hawes and an unnamed 17-year-old juvenile, also of Emporia, identified themselves Thursday as the people responsible for the incidents early Wednesday. Formal charges are pending against both.
The incidents were reported around 3:30 am Wednesday on Kansas Highway 99 between Emporia and Olpe. A car allegedly used lights resembling law enforcement lights to pull two vehicles over, then drove around the other vehicles as they moved to the shoulder.
The Sheriff’s Office is now seeking information about anybody else that may have been affected by this activity. If you have information, call the Sheriff’s Office at 341-3205.
