Emporia State University has a new senior diversity officer on board.
Dr. Aswad Allen begins Aug. 12 after a nationwide search. Most recently, Allen was the University of Colorado’s assistant dean for its School of Education and Human Development Diversity, Inclusion and Student Engagement. He also was a special assistant to Colorado’s vice chancellor for student affairs and has over 25 years of experience working with “innovative and collaborative” student-focused initiatives.
Allen says he was drawn to ESU because of its goal of becoming a model for diversity, equity and inclusion, and he says work to establish safe learning and teaching environments can lead to healthy dialogue experiences and “an amazing learning advantage.”
