There will be a Democrat running for the US House First District seat in Kansas.
Kali Barnett is making her announcement official as part of a tour across Kansas, including a stop at Emporia’s Gravel City Roasters at 6 pm. Barnett is a Garden City native, an elementary school teacher and children’s book author. The daughter of third-generation farmers in western Kansas, Barnett says education, agriculture and working families are her main focal points if elected.
Barnett’s initial tour goes through Tuesday.
Current Congressman Roger Marshall, a Republican, has not announced whether he will run to retain his seat or join a crowded field of both Republicans and Democrats looking to take Pat Roberts’ Senate seat after Roberts retires next year.
