Tuesday is reserved for primary elections, but there is a notable lack of races across the KVOE listening area for that night.
There are no primaries taking place in Lyon County, and for that matter the only primary across the area is the race for Eureka mayor. Steven Coulter, Larry Moore, Kevin Lawrence and Kim Watchous are running for that seat.
The election calendar fills up after that, and there is a notable local election even before the general election in early November. Ballots will go to registered Emporia voters Aug. 16 to determine whether voters approve a $78 million bond for facility improvements across USD 253. New registrations or changes to current registrations are due by Aug. 15.
The fall elections will focus on city council, city commission, mayor and school board races. Also on the ballot in Eureka will be the latest effort by USD 389 Eureka to pass a $7.5 million bond to replace the high school activity center after it was destroyed by a tornado last year. The bond initially passed, but voters then rejected the measure after a clerical error was discovered after the first election.
Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat will discuss the upcoming bond election and ongoing security measures during Tuesday’s Newsmaker segment at 8:20 am.
