The 33rd annual Flint Hills Beef Fest will be shaking things up from year’s past.
The three-day event will be taking place Friday, August 23 through Sunday, August 25. Beef Fest Committee Member Brian Rees says some scheduling conflicts have led to locations, times and days changing for certain events that have for the most part run on a pretty consistent basis throughout the years.
One example Rees highlights is the annual live stocker show which will be taking place at 9 am Friday.
The ranch feed and rodeo will close out Friday’s activities. Rees says another big change to this year’s schedule will be the awards banquet and steak dinner which will be taking place at White Auditorium this year. Those wishing to attend the banquet must purchase advance tickets as there will be no tickets sold at the door. The cost is $40 per person and allows you to attend the banquet, steak dinner and dance that evening.
Rees says in terms of the location change, with the Lyon County Fair running a bit later than usual the normal schedule of events, which has been pretty fluid over the years, was thrown a bit out of synch. According to Rees they will “figure out how to make it work this year” and get the schedule back to normal for next year.
This year’s Beef Fest will come to an end Sunday, August 25 with the annual golf tournament at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. For more information or questions on this year’s Beef Fest or a full list of activities visit beeffestdotcom.wordpress.com.
