The Emporia Rescue Mission is making plans to tweak its entry requirements if the Topeka mission has to close its doors next month.
On Monday, the Topeka mission said it faces a $180,000 shortfall per month and needs to raise at least that amount by Sept. 15 to stay open. Emporia director Lee Alderman is making plans to make a short-term adjustment if needed.
Last year, the Rescue Mission implemented a new policy where it accepts only Emporia men, men coming out of the Lyon County Jail or men who have a local parole officer after coming out of prison. Alderman says the policy has worked well in eliminating traveling methamphetamine addicts.
