Jorge Soler homered, Hunter Dozier tripled and Mike Montgomery was impressive on the hill as the Kansas City Royals shut out Detroit 7-0 Saturday.
Soler’s 33rd home run in the fourth put KC on the board. He is now second in the American League, behind Mike Trout’s 39, and fifth overall. He’s also five homers behind Mike Moustakas for most in Royals history.
Montgomery had his best start since coming back to KC in a trade with the Cubs last month. He struck out a career-high 12 and didn’t walk a batter in seven shutout innings.
The Royals and Tigers will close down their series today, with the Royals hoping for a win and a split of the four games. First pitch is just after noon on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM.
