An ongoing phone scam is being reported by Greenwood County authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office says callers allegedly from the Social Security Administration tell people they will be arrested within 48 hours of first contact if they do not agree to send money.
The Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service and other government agencies will not call to demand that you make payments over the phone. Authorities also do not arrest people for not making Social Security payments.
The Sheriff’s Office is using this instance to remind people not to give out personal or financial information over the phone unless you know who’s asking for that information.
