The Kansas City Royals out scored the New York Mets 4-1 Friday night.
The Royals scored 2 runs in the 5th inning. Meibrys Viloria doubled in the tying run and Nicky Lopez doubled in the go ahead run.
The Royals added 2 more runs in the 8th on a bases loaded walk to Brett Phillips and a single by Bubba Starling.
Mike Montgomery was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits.
Ian Kennedy survived giving up 2 hits and walk to pick up his 21st save.

The Royals designated outfielder Billy Hamilton for assignment on yesterday and recalled outfielder Brett Phillips from Triple-A Omaha. Hamilton, who signed a one-year deal with Kansas City in the offseason after six seasons in Cincinnati, swiped 18 bases in 93 games, but hit only .211/.275/.269 with no homers and 12 RBIs.
