The identities of three people killed in a fire Friday have now been released by the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office in a news statement, the individuals include 27-year-old Jennifer Rose-Pope, 5-year-old Faith Garrett and six-year-old Hope Garrett. The Sheriff’s Office has also released the name of the man who escaped the blaze. 52-year-old Richard Powell was hurt and airlifted to an unspecified hospital for treatment, and the Sheriff’s Office says the extent of his injuries are unclear.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
Coffey County deputies, Burlington Police, Coffey County Fire and Coffey County EMS all responded to the 200 block of Hudson in Burlington after the fire was reported shortly before 5 am. The house was fully engulfed when authorities arrived. By the time the fire was extinguished, a mother and two children were killed, according to KVOE’s television partner WIBW in Topeka.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping with the fire investigation.
