Widespread rainfall did not develop across the KVOE listening area Wednesday night or Thursday morning, so flash flood watches for the area were canceled early.
The National Weather Service expected storms to fire along a cold front, which happened — but the activity stayed south of our area.
Concerns about flooding developed after the north half of the listening area saw 1-3 inches of rain early Wednesday.
3:30 pm Wednesday: Flash flood watches up for entire KVOE listening area
Heavy rain fell on the north half of the KVOE listening area early Wednesday, and more heavy rain is possible by early Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 7 pm Wednesday to 10 am Thursday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate watch from 8 pm Wednesday until Thursday morning. The Weather Service expects 1-3 inches of rain overnight after residents along and north of Interstate 35 and US Highway 50 got similar totals from thunderstorms between midnight and sunrise Wednesday.
A marginal severe weather risk coincides with the heavy rain potential. Hail and high winds are the main issues.
