Damage estimates are pending after a brush fire developed at the Lyon-Chase County Transfer Station early Sunday morning.
Emporia Fire was toned out to the landfill shortly after midnight after a trash fire was reported. Fire Capt. Jesse Taylor says the facility’s incinerator was used Friday without issues, but wind pushed some embers and caught a pile of tree limbs on fire.
Firefighters contained the fire while landfill personnel adjusted dirt nearby. Taylor says more dirt will likely be dumped on the fire to put it out.
No injuries were reported.
