The 33rd annual Flint Hills Beef Fest got underway Friday.
Activities began with the live stocker show at 9:30 am at the Lyon County Fairgrounds followed by a special luncheon and the annual beef producers seminar at the Bowyer Building. The seminar featured a wide range of expert speakers providing information ranging from debunking myths about beef stability, a new cattle tracing program and the impact of ag markets on producers.
Leffler Commodities LLC of Agusta owner Tom Leffler delivered the marketing presentation. He says it is vital for ag producers to be constantly aware of market trends as fluctuation can have a profound effect on their livelihoods.
Additional speakers included Outwork Reaching Group US Roundtable for Sustainable Beef co-chairman Debbie Lyons-Blythe, Downey Ranch Inc. Owner Barb Downey, Livestock Marketing Association Government and Industry Affairs Associate Pierce Bennett and Innovative Livestock Services and CattleTrace Inc. Vice President Brandon Depenbusch.
Beef Fest activities continue Saturday with the Awards Banquet and Steak Dinner at White Auditorium beginning at 5:30 pm. Activities will conclude Sunday with the annual Golf Tournament at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
Tickets for the Awards Banquet are $40 per person and must be bought in advance at Emporia Vet Hospital, Jim’s Cowboy Shop, and Frontier Farm Credit. Find more information on the Flint Hills Beef Fest at www.beeffestdotcom.wordpress.com.
