Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation wasted no time in kicking off their fundraising activities for the United Way Campaign Friday.
The 17th annual Wolf Creek golf tournament took over the Emporia Municipal Golf Course with over 120 golfers making up 28 separate teams, which is two teams more than 2018’s tournament. According to organizer and Wolf Creek Evaluation Specialist Mike Birk this is just one of the numerous events Wolf Creek will hold throughout the campaign as he tells KVOE News, more events means more funds to support the United Way and their 23 communnity partners.
Birk says with Wolf Creek being spread out across the local area, the United Way campaign allows the company to support each of the communities in which they’re based at the same time.
`
Local resident Lisa Robke was one of the numerous golfers taking part in the tournament. She says it’s a good feeling knowing she can help support numerous agencies which do so much for the local community.
This year’s tournament raised $8,000. All proceeds will go to benefit the United Way Campaign and their 23 community partners from Lyon and surrounding counties as well as Woodson County.
