Children from ages 5-12 got to meet their favourite Emporia State University athletes during Wednesdays Hornet Fest.
Hornet Fest is an event where kids and their families can go down to Welch stadium and learn from their favourite athletes. The event had a station for sports such as football, soccer, and basketball. after the stations, kids got the chance to get autographs from the athletes involved.
Parents enjoyed the event just as much as the kids, especially so for local mother Jennifer Garza who talks about what she enjoyed from the event.
The athletes were also having a blast with the kids. Defensive Back for ESU, Gary Woods II, says that these opportunities are important for not only the kids but the athletes as well.
The Hornet Fest was funded by community grants provided by the Walmart Foundation and Emporia’s Walmart.
