Among the players released, quarterbacks Chase Litton and Kyle Shurmur and Offensive lineman Jeff Allen.
Receiver Gehrig Dieter and defensive end Breeland Speaks were placed on injured reserve.
The Chiefs traded cornerback Mark Fields to Minnesota for a 2021 draft pick.
They traded running back Carlos Hyde to Houston for offensive lineman Martinas Rankin.

The Chiefs also resigned Jeff Allen. The AP is reporting the Chiefs also signed running back LeSean McCoy, who was released by Buffalo, to a 1 year $4 million dollar contract.
Wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas was suspended for the season opener for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
The Chiefs open the season Sunday at Jacksonville.
