The Emporia Public Library is starting its 150th Anniversary speaker series this fall.
The first two speakers will be Dennis Garcia, giving a presentation on his book “Marine, Public Servant, Kansan: The Life of Ernest Garcia” and professional storyteller Pippa White will be doing a program titled “Women Who Change the World” on Sept. 13. Library Director Robin Newell talks about why this program is important to the library.
Garcia’s performance will be at 6 pm Monday at the library’s large meeting room. White will perform at noon Sept. 13 at the Arts Center. Her appearance is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, so tickets are $10 and include lunch. RSVPs are needed by calling 340-6451.
The rest of the speakers will include Doctor Jeff Smith portraying Andrew Carnegie on October 19 and Debra Divine doing a presentation over quilts on November 16.
