United Way milestones were the focus of KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday.
Drive chair and KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas announced the campaign goal of $560,000 late in the program. He also said the United Way is giving residents extra incentive to give by highlighting the work of the United Way’s community partners and their work to enhance the eight-county coverage area.
Also during the program, it was announced the Dolly Parton Imagination Library hit a milestone of its own with 100,000 books now distributed since the program started in 2014. Over 1,700 children, ranging in age from birth to age 5, now receive books every month until they age out of the program.
When the United Way announced Director Jami Reever’s resignation last week, it was said she was joining a statewide nonprofit organization at the end of September. Reever confirmed she will be the executive director of Kansas Appleseed, a social justice, public policy and advocacy group based in Lawrence.
Reever has told KVOE News she will commute and her family will stay in Emporia.
