A near three-year renovation project for USD 252 Southern Lyon County officially came to an end Thursday morning with a special ribbon-cutting in Olpe.
Superintendent Mike Argabright, along with representatives of all grades and age groups from Olpe, did the honors Thursday morning and says it was an exciting day. Renovations began at Olpe in the fall of last year, and unfortunately saw its share of setbacks due to less than favorable weather throughout the majority of the year.
However, Argabright says thankfully they had a great team of construction workers, managers and architects who managed to overcome those setbacks.
The project included renovations and additions including a new cafeteria, a daycare area, renovated restrooms, a new music room, increased space throughout the building and a brand new early childhood learning center. Olpe Principal Shane Clark says the early childhood program has been in existence for the past 4-5 years, however, the program had “significant space issues” and if they wanted to expand the program, they first had to expand the facilities.
Thursday’s ribbon-cutting follows similar ceremonies at both Hartford and Neosho Rapids following similar work at both facilities. Olpe currently has 300 students enrolled from early childhood through 12th grade.
