The Emporia State soccer team opened their season Friday with a heartbreaking loss, 4-3 in double overtime to Rockhurst.
Tanna Benefiel gave the Lady Hornets the early 1-0 lead. She scored in the 10th minute of play. Rockhurst took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Kennedy Hoffman tied the match at 2 with a goal in the 65th minute of play. Rockhurst retook the lead in the 78th minute.
Aislnn Hughes retied the match in the 82 minute of play. Rockhurst scored the winner in the 5th minute of the 2nd overtime. Rockhurst out shot the Lady Hornets 9-7 on goal.
The Lady Hornets will play Lindenwood Sunday afternoon.
