Lyon County Commissioners approved the publishing of reimbursement funds to assist services for probationers within Lyon County during their weekly action session Thursday morning.
Community Corrections Director Steve Willis presented commissioners with the fiscal year 2020 adult and juvenile Kansas Department of Corrections carryover reimbursement budgets. According to Willis the budgets allow the department to sustain any programs for their probationers once grant funding runs out.
Willis says the reimbursement funds may only be used for the age group which the original grant applies to.
The total carryover for the adult budget is $190,000 — a $12,000 increase from the year before. Total carryover for the juvenile budget is $16,900 which is a total increase of over $13,000 since 2016.
Additionally, commissioners approved the submission of the 2020 Federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. Willis tells KVOE News the grant provides funding for drug testing of probationers as well as transportation and interpreters.
This is the second time in as many weeks these items have come before the commission for approval. The reason being is, during its recent meeting, the Community Corrections Advisory Board felt it needed to give approval to the items before the county commission.
All items were approved 3-0.
Commissioners spent the remainder of their meeting conducting executive sessions, two for legal matters and two for non elected personnel. Lyon County Commissioners will reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
