Candidates are starting to line up for the US House First District seat now that incumbent Roger Marshall is running for US Senate.
Garden City eye doctor and Finney County Commission Chair Bill Clifford is now the second Republican to announce his campaign in less than a week, following one-time lieutenant governor Tracey Mann. Clifford says he’s running because Kansans “need a strong conservative leader” to “defend the Kansas way of life.”
Clifford is a military veteran, having served during the Vietnam War after joining the Air Force and then becoming a doctor after receiving his honorable discharge.
So far, the only Democrat in the race is also from Garden City — teacher Kali Barnett.
