Two Lyon County fire departments were called out to a train fire late Monday night, but neither were needed.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Emporia fire crews were called to Sixth and Main in Neosho Rapids around 11:30 pm. Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Craig Andrews tells KVOE News fire developed in a locomotive but was put out by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe crew before Hartford-Neosho Rapids firefighters arrived.
Emporia Fire was canceled before reaching the fire scene.
Railroad spokesman Andy Williams says a traction motor caught fire. The locomotive in question was set out for repair and the train continued after a brief delay.
Damage estimates are pending. No injuries were reported.
