Some area businesses or non-profits impacted by severe storms and flooding from earlier this year — and actually dating back to last fall — can now take advantage of low-interest federal loans to help offset certain obligations and expenses.
The Small Business Administration says Lyon, Chase and Osage counties are so-called primary counties for this disaster designation. However, neighboring counties like Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee can also take advantage of the help that’s offered.
The SBA is offering Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million to small nonfarm businesses, small ag cooperatives, small businesses involved in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations. Loans will “help meet most financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred.” These organizations have until May 6 to apply.
These loans are not for businesses with a farming or ranching focus. The SBA says ag producers should contact the Department of Agriculture’s Farm Services Agency to se about available funding.
The designation follows a range of severe weather dating back to mid-October 2018, including flooding, flash flooding, high winds and tornadoes. For more information, go online to https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela or call 800-659-2955.
