The Kansas State High School Activities Association Board of Directors voted down a proposal from the Frontier league to have separate public and private school state championships.
The Topeka Capital Journal reports that last year private schools won 30 percent of the state championships in the classifications there are private schools. The Frontier league was proposing that there be separate state championships for public schools and private schools.
A proposal that could bump the private schools up a classification is expected to be made to the Board of Directors in the Spring.
The Board of Directors did approve a change in the transfer rule. The Current rule says a student who transfers schools for any reason other than a physical move or hardship must only sit out 18 weeks. The new rule says, transfers wouldn’t become eligible for one full year after their move. It will become effective at the start of the 2020-21 school year.
