Lyon County residents were given a glimpse at the future of rodeo during the Lyon County Showdown Rodeo Saturday and Sunday.
Participants from around the state of Kansas, and some from neighboring states such as Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas, took to the Lyon County Fair Grounds arena to show off their skills in numerous events. Competitors consisted of both junior and senior high school students.
Junior high division competitor Dawson Tullis was an all-around competitor taking part in every event.
Along with providing those in attendance with an exciting show, competitors also helped to impact the local community by donating to KVOE’s drive for food. Kansas High School Rodeo Association Secretary Suzan Adams says taking part in the food drive helps instil values in their competitors that stay with them well after their rodeo competition days have come to an end.
This year’s rodeo saw well over 500 items donated to the Drive for Food.
